Around the time Deen Dayal began his service for the Department of Works Secretariat Office in Indore, he also started making pictures regularly. Using the glass plate technology that was available in India, he began photographing monuments. Over time, his skills were recognised, and he found no trouble in getting new assignments from both the British and Indian elite. His acute artistic sensibilities and keen business sense helped establish him as one of the premier artists of his time.
